Dyscophus insularis is one of the two most common Tomato frogs available in the hobby. D. insularis tend to be slightly more brown than their more orange cousins, D. guineti, and are slightly smaller.

These frogs are endemic to western Madagascar. Its natural habitats are subtropical or tropical dry forests, subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests, dry savanna, moist savanna, intermittent rivers, and intermittent freshwater marshes. They are docile and can cohabitate with other tomato frogs.

Temperatures should range in the mid to low 70s/ 21-23 C, and humidity around 50-70%. A body of dechlorinated water is recommended for the tank. A tank size of 20 gallons will be sufficient for one to two frogs.
